Trenton Circus Squad is a non-profit organization that inspires young people to take big leaps in life.  Through our free circus programs, squad members learn how to cooperate, push themselves and serve their community - all through the astonishing practice of circus arts. Squad members learn physical techniques, life skills and build trust with teens from other neighborhoods. They lead community engagement through workshops and performances with younger children and families. It's an often breathtaking experience filled with exercise, learning and joyful laughter for kids of all ages.

Position Description:

We are seeking a highly competent individual with previous fundraising/development experience to serve as our Director of Development. The position comes with great responsibility, as they will be accountable for maintaining the grant pipeline and increasing donor engagement. Will plan and oversee campaigns and events to raise funds for the organization. Strategize and implement multiple campaigns, like annual giving, capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.

The Director of Development is responsible for executing multiple fundraising/development campaigns to secure funds for the organization’s programming and general operations.

Major responsibilities of the Director of Development are set forth below:

  • Play key role in preparing annual fundraising budget. Identify measurable outcomes, regularly evaluate effectiveness of initiatives, and shift strategies as necessary. Lead preparation of the Annual Report.

  • Oversee and implement research, grant preparation, management, and reporting for foundation, corporate, and government grants; Identify and successfully solicit new sources of major institutional support.

  • Manages special events geared towards fund development.

  • Prepares fundraising materials for in person, email, and traditional mail solicitation.

  • Maintains donor database.

  • Regular communication with donors via print and digital newsletters.

  • Writing responsibilities also include grant writing and reporting, as well as appeal preparation and donor acknowledgement.

  • Furnishing Executive Director with regular progress reports.

  • Capital and planned giving campaigns.

  • Supports the Executive Director in making direct asks for major gifts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or 5 years of work experience, in this field.

  • Valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle.

  • Pass a background check.

  • Think independently, but also utilize teamwork strategies when faced with difficult tasks.

  • Experience in local donor and foundation engagement would be beneficial.

Director of Operations

Position Description:

We are looking for someone with experience in efficiency. An individual with previous outreach and networking experience to serve as our Director of Operations. The position comes with great responsibility, as they will be accountable for everything from Administration and Policy to Programing and Technology. Will plan and oversee the day to day operations for the organization. 

Required Skills:

The Director of Operations must have a thorough understanding of practices, theories, and policies involved in nonprofits, superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, superior managerial and diplomacy skills, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, and be extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and agility to learn new software, like Salesforce.

Administration:

  • Ensure program data is properly captured by program staff, including enrollment, waivers, attendance, progress notes and regular assessments.

  • Engage and supervise volunteer assistance as needed for programs and events.

  • Attract and supervise interns from local area colleges for administrative and programmatic support.

  • Process payroll for the entire organization two times per month.

  • Oversee all organizational insurance policies. Ensuring they meet organizational needs to reduce liability and risk to the organization.

  • At the Executive Director’s request, manage contracts with subcontractors (e.g., visiting teachers).

Ambassadorship:

  • Speak on behalf of Trenton Circus Squad as needed at community and fundraising events.

  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization to enhance programmatic relationships and develop strategic partnerships for funding, programming, and organizational visibility, and growth.

  • Must attend all Squad performances and events in Trenton and presence is expected, when possible, at traveling performances.

  • Maintain and develop relationships with local partners such as Boys and Girls Club, Trenton School District etc. that refer youth to the program and those such as Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and the YMCA that provide services for our program.

Operations:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes to provide visibility into the goals, progress, and obstacles of key initiatives.

  • Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.

  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business procedures.

  • Implements policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations.

  • Establishes quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated; identifies opportunities for improvement.

  • Ensures work environments are adequate and safe.

Reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

Policy:

  • Share compliance responsibilities with the Executive Director, for internal policies as well as local, state, and federal codes for operations.

  • Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers; for major changes, meets with entire staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.

  • Responsible for the development and routine updating of all organizational policies and procedures.

  • Ensures youth and family satisfaction through policy and procedural changes.

Strategy:

  • Participate along with the Executive Director in planning for the future of the organization, identifying priorities for programmatic improvement, and opportunities to improve operations.

  • Implement program and operational improvements as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans.

Programming:

  • Manage bookings for workshops and performances.

  • Manage the schedule of workshop visitors and outreach events and arrange staffing for these as appropriate.

  • Manage program staffing needs.

  • Responsible for handling all logistics related to the Big Top Tour, including concessions and “swag”.

  • Develop and implement new approaches to attract teens from the Trenton area to participate in Trenton Circus Squad programs.

  • Manage all transportation logistics for youth and equipment.

  • Responsible for managing fleet maintenance and rental of all necessary vehicles and equipment. Establish relationships with equipment rental agencies.

Technology:

  • Act as the point person for the full range of online tools and vendors the organization uses to support its operations. These include but are not limited to: Dropbox, Salesforce, Canva, Verified Volunteers, Squarespace, Mailchimp, Google Suite, and TechSoup.

  • Responsible for all staff training, use, and compliance with the organization’s database, Salesforce.

  • Maintenance of the website.

  • Responsible for supporting all technical aspects of productions.

Salary: $66k-$70k
